The NYS Assembly and Senate released their calculations around how much there is to spend this session beyond Governor Hochul鈥檚 $227 billion budget proposal for 2023-2024. Based on each House鈥檚 calculations:
-
The Assembly has identified an additional $1.078 billion, due to 鈥渄ifferences in economic projections and how these translate into tax receipts.鈥 These assessments and are reviewed by an independent panel of economists.
-
For SFY 2023-24, Senate Finance Committee staff identified an additional $1.3 billion or 1.0 percent higher than the Executive Budget Financial Plan forecast. 鈥淭his analysis, prepared by the Senate Finance Committee staff, will support our careful deliberation of the revenue and economic projections contained in the SFY 2023-24 Executive Budget.鈥
Both houses are poised to release their separate 鈥榦ne house bills鈥 in the coming days as to how they propose to spend these additional dollars, as well as some additional funding they believe can be 鈥榬eprogrammed鈥 from the Governor鈥檚 budget.
Following the release of the one house bills, both houses will convene joint budget committee meetings for each area of the budget, ours being 鈥榤ental hygiene.鈥 Ultimate, reps from both houses and the Governor鈥檚 Administration are scheduled to reach a final budget deal by April 1.
The bottom line: 黑料正能量 members and other advocates for 黑料正能量ers with mental health, substance use and trauma-related challenges and the services they receive must go all out in the coming weeks to influence what鈥檚 in the one house bills and in the final agreement.
Every other group will be looking to capture these funds so we have to be the loudest!
