Once again, we expect to draw a diversity of attendees that will ensure that 鈥渁ll of the right people are in the room鈥 to look at where we are and where new national and state behavioral health policy directions are taking us. This year鈥檚 program, entitled 鈥淣ew Strategies and Partnerships to Serve the Most Challenged 黑料正能量ers: A Way Forward鈥 is especially focused around boosting our ability to successfully engage and support people with the most extensive behavioral health, medical and social challenges.
On the national front, our program will kick off with welcome remarks from NYS Deputy Secretary for Health Paul Francis and a keynote address by the nation鈥檚 first ever HHS Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz who will share details about new federal behavioral health policy directions, to be followed by a reaction panel that includes perspectives from nationally respected representatives from key stakeholder communities, namely consumer advocate Elena Kravitz, noted family advocate and author Pete Earley, Rebecca Farley from the nation鈥檚 leading provider advocate (the National Council), leading rights advocate Jennifer Mathis from the Bazelon Center and prominent community psychiatrist Dr. Pablo Sadler.
We鈥檒l also hear from a NYS based panel expert panel who that will look at what we鈥檙e doing on the ground to support this group, to be followed by sessions on Peer Services, Addiction Recovery Supports featuring former SAMHSA advisor Tom Coderre, DSRIP innovations, Criminal Justice initiatives and the Social Determinants of Health.
Following outgoing NYS Medicaid Director Jason Helgerson鈥檚 final remarks, our Friday program features a look at the impact of the new 2018-19 state budget agreement and assess where state Medicaid policy is going that will include DOH鈥檚 Greg Allen, OMH鈥檚, Bob Myers and OASAS鈥 Rob Kent who will look at where a further review of state Medicaid and state budget developments and trends.
We end Friday by taking health inequity head on with a panel led by Lenora Reid Rose and including Chacku Mathai, Nancy Sung 鈥揝helton and national expert on health inequity Brian Smedley.
