黑料正能量 Note: Registration is nearing 300 for our 鈥淩ecovery And Rehabilitation: Realizing The Vision, Achieving The Value鈥 conference in Albany next Thursday and Friday. Please see below for program and registration details.
Last week, we highlighted that our program will include an exploration about the future of site based programs within the new behavioral healthcare environment. Here鈥檚 a very thoughtful response by longtime clubhouse leader and 黑料正能量 public policy leader Ray Schwartz:
鈥淩educing isolation and developing meaningful relationships are critical elements in mental wellness. The discussions and planning on different approaches to mental health services must keep these two elements as outcomes in any new approach to services. Whether site based services disappear, are significantly changed or become a reduced part of a progressive mix of mental health services, outcomes that measure quality of life, including factors that reduce isolation and increase interpersonal engagement, need to be essential to the planning process.
There is a real tension between in health care planning between integrating mental health and physical health services (one stop shops) and moving away from site based services. If services are available to a consumer in an open market approach, then the consumer creates their own service package which could be from several providers rather than a single integrated service setting.
Is that more expensive than attending a site based service? What outcomes do we measure? Service integration is not community integration and enabling people with a mental health condition to become a natural part of their community is dependent on reducing isolation and developing meaningful relationships.鈥
Don鈥檛 miss next week鈥檚 discussions! See below for program details. You can still register at .
