The National Empowerment Center presents a webinar that includes Jean Campbell, who helped establish Consumer-Operated Service Programs (COSPs) as evidence-based practices, Laysha Ostrow of Live and Learn, and Bevin Croft of Human Services Research Institute (HSRI). The webinar will stress the importance of good evaluation of peer programs, offer helpful tips, and use peer respites as a case study.ÌýÌý

Jean Campbell, Ph. D.Ìý

In 2014 Dr. Campbell retired as a research professor inÌýmental health at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, University of Missouri—St. Louis. As a mental health consumer researcher, speaker, mentor, and director of the university’s Program in Consumer Studies and Training, Dr. Campbell advanced the understanding of consumer issues and challenged the use of coercion in the delivery of mental health services. She helped establish peer-run programs as an evidence-based practice to promote a recovery-based mental health system, eventually becoming principle investigator of the largest, most rigorous study of peer-run programs.

Laysha Ostrow, Ph. D.Ìý

Laysha Ostrow is a Research Associate in the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work, and the CEO of Live & Learn, Inc. Dr. Ostrow’s research over the past several years has focused on the role of peer support in social service systems. As part of her doctoral dissertation, she designed and conducted the 2012 National Survey of Mental Health Peer-Run Organizations. Dr. Ostrow has served on federal work-groups to promote the voice of peers in policy and research and provided technical assistance and consulting services on implementation of peer respites in several states.Ìý

Bevin Croft, MPP, MASPÌý

Bevin Croft of the Human Services Research Institute has over ten years experience with behavioral health services provision, management, quality improvement, workforce development, and research. Ms. Croft is the project director of an evaluation of the 2nd Story Peer-Run Respite program in Santa Cruz, CA.Ìý
