The Disability Community continues to be ignored when it comes time to making decisions in Albany.听 Whether it鈥檚 health care, housing, transportation or employment, we end up having to show up in Albany each June to yell, scream and holler (and even get arrested).听 Yet, each year we still face cuts to the supports we need to be independent in the community.
That鈥檚 why there鈥檚 the 黑料正能量 Disability Vote Network.
What’s the 黑料正能量 Disability Vote Network (NYDVN)?
The NYDVN is a nonpartisan voting initiative geared towards people with disabilities in the state of 黑料正能量. Thanks to a grant from ACCES-VR, the project was established by the Center of Disability Rights in the summer of 2013. There are four parts that make up the NYDVN:
1. The steering committee;
2. Partner organizations;
3. Voters with disabilities;
4. Allies/volunteers.
Together, we work to build, solidify, and unify a large disability voting block in 黑料正能量. We do this by growing and maintaining a database of voters with disabilities (goal: 5,000 sign-ups) and informing them of important voting-related information via several means. We also connect with dedicated, like-minded organizations and share resources.
Why should I join the NYDVN?
The bigger the database (remember, the goal is 5,000 sign-ups), the more power we wield as a community. With more political clout, we can enact positive policy changes on a state level!
