See Michael Skinner’s ‘Joy’, Triumph over Abuse & Suicide

October 30, 2013 by Chris Liu-Beers

Following is a video clip of 2013 Faith and Fellowship Award Winner and longtime organizer of our Conference’s longtime and very popular Open Mic program Michel Skinner (http://www.nyaprs.org/e-news-bulletins/2013/005688.cfm).

Michael is a hero in our mental health and abuse survivor community.

In this clip, he performs a new song, “Joy,” which he used to close his conference presentation entitled “The Silence of Suicide”.

The clip is part of Michael’s my participation with the 1BlueString Campaign to raise awareness on males who have been sexually abused/assaulted.

There’s joy in knowing what I have found

There’s joy in knowing that I’m still around

There’s joy in knowing that I still care

Joy in knowing you’re still there

Joy in knowing you’re still there

I’m so glad you’re still around

Thanks for sharing not kicking me down

Something so simple yet it’s so profound

A life to live a life to give your hand held out

Joys of wonder laugh out loud

No more secrets I’ve let them out

It’s tears from laughter and it’s time to shout

There’s joy in knowing I’m still around

There’s joy in knowing you’re still around

I’m so glad you’re still around

Thanks for sharing not kicking me down

Something so simple yet it’s so profound

A life to live a life to give your hand held out

There’s a life to live and a life to give your hand held out

There’s joy in knowing what I have found

There’s joy in knowing that I’m still around

There’s joy in knowing that I still care

Joy in knowing you’re still there

Joy in knowing you’re still there

Yes it’s joy in knowing you’re still there

Yes it’s joy in knowing you’re still there
